Kyaw Si Thu who is touring North America on a "Driving for Burma" campaign will arrive Vancouver, BC on Dec 22, 2007 (TBC) in his beautiful BMW (see blog http://drivingforburma.blogspot.com/). Plans are in place for a car parade on Monday, December 24th to drive along Vancouver's famous shopping strips, Robson, Davie and Granville Streets. We encourage you to join our car parade in a drive for "Free Burma" Campaign. Below are the details:
Date: Monday, December 24, 2007
Meeting time: 11:30 for 12:00 p.m. start
Meeting Place: IMPARK parking lot between Cambie and Beatty (on Georgia) - adjacent to Queen Elizabeth Theatre.
Route: Exit parking lot (left turn) on Cambie, cross George intersection and turn right on Robson Street; drive along Robson till Denman Street, and then turn left on Davie Street; drive along Davie and turn right on Howe Street; drive across Granville Bridge, and along Granville Street until 16th Avenue. Then, turn left into 16th Avenue and stop. End of tour. The Chinese Consulate is on Granville @16th Avenue.

Action Committee for Free Burma Campaign - Vancouver
We are a group of individuals who are working together to actively promote the democracy movement in Burma. The action campaigns worldwide have contributed tremendously to human rights, democracy and people's liberty. The action committee for Free Burma Campaign in Vancouver does not belong to any one particular person, a particular caste, a group, or a family. It belongs to the millions who believe in the campaign.
Therefore, we will work together with any individual, political group, religious organization, race or gender who is interested in raising awareness to free Burma and to help the citizens of Burma earn their freedom. The situation in Burma right now is at a critical point and of such significance that it is not going to go away in a few weeks or a few months. It is time for all Burmese people and communities worldwide to take active measures to help the citizens of Burma secure their long-awaited freedom.
We are impartial, law-abiding, and honest associates who are making a stand against social injustice. We need more people to get involved. We believe that everybody has something to contribute. Please join us because "together we can".

In my experience, car campaign drew lots of attention. However, there are many things that I wish that I could have done better/bigger. For instance, it would be better if we could get a dedicated lane for a car campaign which takes a long and tedious process with Mayor Office (in NYC). Without a dedicated lane, the car line was interrupted by NYC's notorious drivers which weakened the campaign. Another important thing is that all participants need to stick with the given route. It led to a mini chao in busy midtown NYC.
