Free Kick is the official media sponsor of this event. Free Kick is a free soccer magazine. Its mission is to serve the players, fans, parents and coaches who want information and support for 'the Beautiful Game.' It is published quarterly and distributed in Vancouver and Toronto. Please visit: http://www.freekickmag.com/
About the Film:
Mystic Ball follows Canadian filmmaker Greg Hamilton deep into the ancient and little-known culture of Myanmar and its traditional sport, Chinlone. Like the film, Chinlone is hard to define. It's a team sport without an opposing team. It is also part dance, part meditation. There is no competition, no winners and no losers. The game is back-breakingly difficult, yet is played by almost all Burmese, from young children to octogenarians.
The film tracks Greg's transformation from an outsider obsessed with learning Chinlone to accomplished teammate of the masters of the game. But sport is only one aspect of his journey. Through Chinlone, Greg discovers things he didn't even realize he was looking for: family, community and love.
Mystic Ball's stunning cinematography and inspiring story will give you a sense of the mystical, and encourage a closer look at your own journey.www.mysticball-themovie.com
*All proceeds will go to directly benefit the victims of the cyclone through the contacts director Greg Hamilton has made among the Chinlone community in Myanmar. Unfortunately, Greg has yet to hear from his friends in Myanmar. We will keep you informed of their well-being on the Free Kick magazine website at freekickmag.com

Don't forget Burma!!
Event (1) Donate blood in honour of the Saffron Revolution
Unfortunately, this event has been cancelled due to the new "Malaria Policy" effective April 2007 wherein "any person who has had malaria is not eligible to donate blood - ever". Out of 24 people confirmed to donate, 20 had the misfortune of being infected with malaria at some point in time prior to their arrival in Canada. Therefore, we thought it be best to cancel the group donation. However if any of you who are eligible still wish to donate, please feel free to do so.
Please do try to show up for the screening in the evening which is still going ahead. We look forward to seeing you.

International Women's Day Event
You are cordially invited to attend the International Women's Day event and book launch of the Burmese Women's Union Report 'Caught between two Hells', which will take place on Saturday, March 8, 2008 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. PST, at the Peter Kaye Room, Vancouver Public Library Central Branch.
The Report is based on 149 in-depth interviews conducted with migrant women and girl workers in Chaing Mai, Mae Sot , Ranong (Thailand) and Rulli (China), and highlights the atrocious day-to-day working conditions and human right abuses encountered by them. The Report is a 'voice' for these women. We will be holding presentations by the author of the Report in addition to first-hand experiences given by a presenter from Immigrant Services Society, and story readings centered around this report. We will also be honouring the Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi at this event.
If you are unfamiliar with Burma, now known as Myanmar, you might have heard about the 'Saffron Revolution' that captured the world's attention in Sept 2007. Burma is still ruled by the brutal military regime, and has been for the last 46 years. As we look at the world today, there is so much atrocity and human right abuses taking place, in Iran, Darfur, Philippines, Pakistan, Afghanistan, China just to name a few countries. But, if we just took action, one foot step at a time, one conscience at a time, setting aside egos and boundaries, I believe we will make a change.
There is an RSVP to the event in order to give us an opportunity to keep count of who's attending and to keep the event special. We understand that your weekend time is precious, but if you could spare a few hours of your time, we promise you an interesting afternoon. If you cannot attend we would most appreciate and respectfully request that you forward this invite to other organizations, friends and colleagues that you could invite, as you deem appropriate.
In Burmese, we send a heartfelt 'Kyay-zu-tin-bar-dae' (meaning many thanks.)
We look forward to seeing you on Saturday March 8th at the VPL and to join us in celebrating International Women's Day.
RSVP to: freeburma@live.ca
Peace and good will to you.
Sincerely,
Action Committee for Free Burma
